Fast facts for new campers and parents

– Camp Quality Heartland was established in 1995.  There are fifteen Camp Quality’s in the United States that are governed by a National Board of Directors.  Each individual camp is organized by a Director appointed by the National Board and a committee of volunteers.

– Each camper is paired 1 to 1 with an adult companion.  All companions are at least 18 years of age & must meet the following criteria to be considered as a volunteer: interview with the Companion Coordinator, three reference checks, background check, and mandatory training.

– Campers & Companions are paired on the basis of mutual interests, personalities, age, and gender.  Male campers under the age of 7 may be paired with a female companion.

–Camp begins on a Sunday.  Campers will check in at a location in Omaha and be transported to the campground via charter bus.  Parents may transport their child to camp if they so wish.

–  Camp Quality Heartland rents the Guthrie Grove Reunion Grounds in Guthrie Center, IA.  Guthrie Center is approximately 90 minutes east of Omaha on I-80. No religious denomination is promoted by Camp Quality. The campground managers provide kitchen staff, lifeguards, and the upkeep of the grounds.  No visitors are allowed on site unless approved by the Director.

– In case of a medical emergency, the camp nurse will make every effort to contact the parent/guardian. Camp Quality Heartland maintains 4-5 oncology registered nurses and pediatric physician on the campground 24 hours a day.  A nurse is also present on any short trips taken off site during camp.

– Each camper will receive 3 free trips to the Snack Shack daily.

– Campers are housed in air-conditioned cabins or the hotel-style lodge depending on age, gender, blood counts, and/or any disabilities.
