Acceptance Process for New Volunteers

Our application window is open from February 1st until May 31st.  During this time you will receive emails from us if we have any questions about your application and with reminders for upcoming dates and events.

After the application window has closed, the following must occur:

  1. All volunteers must attend training during the month of June.  The in-person training's are the 2nd weekend in the Dallas area
and the 4th weekend in the Houston area. (Only returning volunteers have the option of completing
    their training online).
  2. At the in-person training, you must complete an interview.
  3. Reference checks will be completed. We will be contacting the references you provided in
    your application.
  4. Background checks will be completed. Every volunteer, every year must get a background
check per the State of Texas.

Once we have verified that the above have been completed, we then go through a multi-day process of placing volunteers into positions.  This is done the week following the last in-person training.  Based on your application and interview, for those that want to be a Companion we pair them with a Camper and for those that want to be on Staff we place them into staff positions.  It is possible that some volunteers will be wait-listed because we are currently unable to place you into one of your requested positions.

After the above is completed, we will then email you with your Camper’s information or your Staff position!

If you have any questions about the information above, please do not hesitate contacting us at
