FORWARD TOGETHER
A Time of Transformation

Cancer is an unbelievable weight on a child’s life. At home and at school, physically and emotionally, it changes everything. Their days become increasingly defined by a shuffling between appointments—hospital to hospital, treatment to treatment. But living with cancer is about more than just the cancer itself, especially for kids—vibrant, loving, tenacious, incredible kids. It’s about living – letting kids with cancer be kids again.

For Camp Quality USA, this is a moment of transformation – not just for our organizational structure, but for our future as an organization and our ability to grow our life-changing experiences for our campers and families. It’s a moment that reflects who we are: a mission-driven community that adapts, grows, and leads with heart. Our mission remains the same – serving children affected by cancer and their families by providing year-round camps, programs, and experiences at no cost. How we meet and grow that mission is transforming.

Over the past year, through our strategic planning process, we’ve heard clearly from staff, volunteers, and partners across the country. The message was consistent: we need a structure that supports growth, increases clarity, and equips every team member to do their best work. This clear message is what catalyzed a significant step we are taking as an organization – one rooted in our mission, shaped by your input, and driven by the belief that we can and must serve more children and families facing cancer.  To live our mission on a larger scale – and to do it equitably and sustainably – we must evolve.

The dedication, compassion, and belief in the power and importance of the Camp Quality USA mission by our volunteers, staff, board, families, and community partners is what has led us for the past 40 years. I am grateful for all who have contributed to our story thus far, and am inspired to continue writing our next chapter together.

With respect and gratitude,

Laura Vaughn
CEO Camp Quality USA

Learn more about each of the positions in the Camp Quality USA organizational structure:

This new structure will allow us to meet our strategic plan goals of:

  • Serve more kids in more communities, with a consistent and high-quality experience
  • Support volunteers and staff more effectively, with clearer systems and expectations
  • Strengthen our fundraising and infrastructure, so we can raise $10 million in the next three years to power this mission

We used thoughtful design criteria to guide every step – prioritizing clarity, centralizing where it adds value, reducing duplication, and staying cost-efficient.

This isn’t change for change’s sake. It’s the result of deep listening:

  • From the strategic planning process, where many of you gave your time and ideas
  • From years of feedback asking for better systems, support, and communication
  • From a clear vision of what’s needed to serve more families and grow with integrity

We know this kind of change brings uncertainty. Some roles will remain largely the same. Others will shift significantly. Some positions will be phased out or combined. We are committed to handling these transitions with care, respect, and transparency.

  • Positions to be hired in 2025 will be accepting applications until Friday, October 10, with the hope of having roles filled in time for the National Meeting in November.
  • We will not sacrifice the need to fill the role with the right person over the intended hiring timeline. We will not stop searching and interviewing for positions until we have the best fit for the role and our future.
  • Available positions are posted at www.campqualityusa.org/about/careers.
