Since 2018, Camp Quality has been more than just a summer getaway for Sophia—it’s been a second home. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at just eight years old, Sophia stepped into the world of Camp Quality with curiosity, a hopeful spirit, and her three sisters—Luna, Delilah, and Maya—right beside her.
Now 16, Sophia is no longer just a camper; she’s a shining example of strength, joy, and perseverance. Next year, she’s moving up to join the Teen Squad, with her sights set on becoming a volunteer—giving back to the place that has given her so much.
Each summer, Sophia and her sisters count down the days until they can reunite with their camp friends. It’s a whirlwind of fun—filled with pool time, epic camp games, snack breaks (the good kind, with plenty of marshmallows), and laughter echoing through every corner of camp.
But for the Sophia’s family, Camp Quality is more than a place for fun. It’s a lifeline—a comforting community that understands the weight of a cancer diagnosis and the beauty of resilience. “It’s not just a camp for our family,” says Salene, Sophia’s mom. “It’s a true home away from home. A safe space where we’ve found connection and comfort with other families who understand our journey.”
When you meet Sophia, you feel it immediately—her unshakable determination, her warmth, and her spark. As her mom perfectly puts it, “There are no unbreakable barriers for Sophia.” And at Camp Quality, she’s not just pushing past boundaries—she’s building lifelong friendships, creating joy, and inspiring everyone around her.
